Fruit

Brown Hen Farm produces an unexpected quantity of delicious fruit.  Apples, cherries, raspberries, black currants, plums, and haskaps grow exceptionally well in our climate. We enjoy fresh fruit from July-September.  July brings haskaps and strawberries. Early August is raspberry time,  and by mid-August, the cherries and currants are starting to ripen. September is apple season.  With over 150 apple trees and nearly 50 varieties, we enjoy apples for every taste and use.  Apple pressing is a favorite fall activity and the juice is enjoyed throughout the year.

Each spring we sell a limited number of grafted apple trees from our favorite varieties.  The scion wood is grafted onto hardy rootstock and then sold the following year to ensure the grafts are strong and the tree is healthy.  Contact us if you're interested in buying a tree.
